ABOUT
Papergirlworld is a network page, that serves as a platform to find and link all existing Papergirl-projects. In the style of American paperboys, rolled-up bundles of art get distributed by bike to random passers-by in the streets. The basic idea is to bring art to the public; to surprise people with unexpected presents and bring them into contact with art in their everyday life. The project started in 2006 in Berlin, Germany and has now spread as an open source project to many places in the world. more
The project was founded by Aisha Ronniger as a reaction to a tightening of a law in Berlin that equated sticking up posters in public places with spraying graffiti. The response was to find new ways to bring art into society while working with others and not fearing the law. The result was art that is distributed by bike.
Papergirl is a “Do It Yourself TOGETHER Projekt” that grew substantially each year from 2006 to 2010. The project consists of an open call, followed by an exhibition – sometimes accompanied by a workshop or a talk, the distribution and often a party.
The concept of Papergirl is understood internationally; as giving presents is a universal language in every culture. Since 2009, independent sister-projects have been founded in many other cities around the world, and this is the networking page where we all come together.
